Nowadays, people mostly depend on transportation inorder to carry out some of their daily tasks without transportation ,it will be impossible for some of us to perform this task.
In the ancient times, our ancestors perform this taskes thanks to transportation. Our predicicors mostly relyed on animals for transportation which was less effecient,convenient and was more limited than that of the modern time .
Now,thanks to the constant innovations of man we were able to solve some of this problems making transportation more easier ,convenient and more effecient .
In this modern time ,cars are one of the most common ways through which transportation is achieved . This machines makes transportation quicker,
convenient and more effecient and are not as limited as that of the ancient times .
Every day we get transported by this amazing machines but Have we ever come to think how this amazing machines usually works?.
Cars are powerless and useless without the engines. This engine is responsible for the ability of this cars to carryout their task and function as it serves as the power house .
The engines achieve this goal by turning the heat energy in gasoline to mechanical energy this is achieved from the following process by some the following major components put together :
. Pistons
This Pistons are found inside a combulsion chamber this Pistons are very essential as they perform the job of converting the explosion of fuel in the combulsion chamber into mechanical energy.
Crank shaft
They convert the upward and downward movements of the pistons into rotatory motion .
Engine block
This is the main housing of all these components combined . The engine blocks holds these things together .
For the car engine to work it has to under go this 4 main cycles :
1.intake
2.compression
3. Combulsion
4. Exhaust.
This is the first cycle ,in this stage air and fuel is been injected into the cylinder containing the pistons with the help of fuel injectors and valves .
2. COMPRESSION STROKE
At this stage the air and fuel mixture is been compressed by the upward movement of the pistons inorder to make the combustion of the fuel,air(explosion)mixture very powerful.
3. POWER STROKE
This is the stage where the magic happens ,finally the air,fuel mixture is been burnt or ignited by the help of an electrical spark plug. This spark ignites the air,fuel mixture there creating a small explosion in the cylinder that pushes the pistons downwards inturn,making the crank shaft to turn.
4. EXHAUST STROKE
Finally,at this stage the burnt air,fuel mixture leaves the burnt gas in the chamber which is then expelled out of the chamber through the opening of the exhaust valve and the upward movement of the pistons to force the burnt gas out rapidly .
All this stages occurs over and over again when your engines are up and running . All this stages are timed through the help of timing belts .car engines varies in the number of cylinders they contain . All this stages occurs in just one cylinder. So in car engines ,they are more than one cylinders which work together by putting each individual effort of the reciprocating movement of each individual pistons that are connected to the crankshaft into to make the engines up and running. Each individual cylinders has an order in which those cycles occurs inorder to give a smooth running .
